The problems of translation
Slightly better day, which was enlivened by a visit to The Clinic Formerly Known as the Circumcision Factory (not sure why they changed their name and it is not something one likes to ask about) where I had an appointment with a nurse to have a mole removed from my leg. I hate moles, they burrow everywhere, so I was glad to see the back of this one. On the way back, walking from the bus stop through Bruce Timmermans Park, I saw this sign, and wondered why the translation was so much sterner in French. Surely, it can’t be the Québécois refusal to say “Stop”? What’s wrong with “Ramassez les crottes”?
