Sgwarnog: In the Field

Vanquished

A good FA Cup cup win for Guiseley over Scunthorpe United. The Lions vanquished The Iron.

Perhaps not quite a ‘giant-killing’, but Scunthorpe were until recently a Football League club, and are riding high at the top of National League North, the league above Guiseley. The travelling fans also doubled the gate, giving it a big game feel.

A single goal in the first half  was enough to secure the win, and Guiseley were good value for that. They had to defend robustly in the twenty minutes though, after going down to ten men. Today’s main image shows Guiseley defending a free kick deep into added time. Scunthorpe’s distinctive kit features silhouettes of the town’s industrial landmarks.

A solitary Red Admiral sallied in front of the main stand, in one of the sunny spells.
