Montgomery

A trip to Montgomery with my son, mainly to visit the ruins of the castle (Castell Trefaldwyn) built in 1223 on the orders of Henry III. The castle is perched quite spectacularly over the town which has largely retained its medieval street layout. We also visited the Church of St Nicholas which dates from the same time and which contains a medieval rood screen, the spectacularly ornate 16th century carved tomb of the Herberts  and some very fine Victorian stained glass windows. If I had to live in a town I think that Montgomery would be high up on a shortlist of places.
