Wound up in Wexford

The first of a busy weekend of concerts.

Earlier in the day - the first fine day this week - we had gutter mending (one corner of the guttering installed earlier this year was leaking), a window cleaner (finally found one, even if he is a bit pricy and can, he readily acknowledged, talk the hind leg off an ass), and Joe (landscaper) called to pick up some of the roots he'd pulled out last week.  Busy busy!

In the evening we drove to Wexford.  Arrived somewhat early for the concert, so we had to go for a walk.  At least it wasn't raining, but it's turned rather cold.  The audience was surprisingly sparse.  It was an interesting programme, Mozart, Dave Flynn, and Dvořák.  The Mozart was one of the "Prussian" ones, written for the cello playing King of Prussia, but not paid for by him because Mozart missed the deadline.  But because it was written with him in mind, a good deal of focus on the cello part.  We thoroughly enjoyed it.

Dave Flynn is an Irish composer.  We struggle with the less melodious aspects of modern music, but I quite enjoyed this, and could certainly hear Irish tones coming through.

The violinist waxed lyrical about the Dvořák when he introduced it.  We found it a little overlong.  Not sure if it was this particular group's interpretation, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected.
