Patience
Today has been all about patience as most of it has been spent standing in queues for one mode of transport or another. Last time we went to Capri we ran out of time and didn’t manage to get to the town of Anacapri so we could take the chairlift up to the top of Monte Solaro. So today, we set off to Capri with the intention of heading straight there from the port. The first queue was to get on the ferry, the second to buy bus tickets once we’d landed and the third was to actually get on the bus. Due to the narrowness of the roads on the island, the buses are very small, but they make a point of cramming as many people on to each one as they can. So it was a very “snug” journey up to Anacapri!
The queue for the chairlift wasn’t that bad and the line moved quickly as there was a very slick operation getting people on and off the chairs. We then had a very pleasant 13 minute trip to the top of the mountain with glorious views all around. Not actually a lot to see at the top so we headed down after 10 minutes or so - which was another peaceful 13 minute ride with great views. I took the picture at the steepest part of the descent - Mrs C is immediately in front but (probably sensibly) refused to turn round for the photo!
After a delicious pizza for lunch we joined a very long queue for the bus back to Capri town. Due to the numbers in the line, and the aforesaid small buses, we had to wait for over an hour so when we got to Capri, we only had time for the briefest of looks in the shops before joining the queue for the funiculare down to the port.
There wasn’t so much a queue as a scrum for the return ferry but we easily got on board and found a seat. And there was hardly any queue for the lift from the port to the town, so things were definitely looking up. And I am writing this journal whilst waiting for the shuttle bus back to the hotel.
Definitely a day for being patient - all modes of transport were totally out of my control, so absolutely no point in getting in a strop if things didn’t happen on time!
All in all, a great day out and we have managed to get to see everything we wanted to on this holiday. Which means tomorrow can be spent in a leisurely way with no rushing around or queuing - a holiday from our holiday if you will!
