Squirrel 1 Fums 0
This is the only bird feeder I have that is squirrel-proof and also corvid-proof (magpies, jackdaws and crows). Both species have their techniques for spilling food from the feeder but neither is able to access the food directly.
Or so we thought.
This little 'hairy-tailed rat' managed to squeeze inside the cage and feast on the newly-filled seed and, when challenged, had no difficulty in escaping at speed.
Our other 'corvid-proof' feeder has failed as the birds fly up and cling without activating the closing mechanism, so I haven't refilled it, assuming that the big one is sufficiently well protected. Not any more.
Whilst I admire the intelligence of the raiders, I'm finding them a serious challenge to my patience and generosity.
The problem is that the small birds, for whom the seed is intented, cannot feed while the big beasts are in occupation.
