The Swamp Wallaby
Today we all went to Newcastle, formerly a very important industrial town as well as a popular seaside resort. It is still a busy port for exporting coal mined from the Hunter Valley. However, since the steelworks closed, it has bevome more gentrified with lots of shops, restaurants and apartment buildings. We walked along the harbour front and beside the popular Nobby's beach and other swimming and surfing beaches. It's a bit early in the season for lots of visitors but it did remind me of Newquay in Cornwall on a sunny Summer's day. See extra for view looking towards the headland known as Nobby's.
On our way back to Maitland we stopped at Black Butt wildlife park which has a small collection of native animals including this Swamp Wallaby.
