It’s a whale I promise
Early start today ( Monday 23) as we got up to see us enter the Chatham Straits in Alaska, with the possibility of seeing Whales but they’d made their appearance just before we got up on deck! After breakfast and our 2 miles round deck we went to a talk on The Iditarod, a 1000 mile husky race across Alaska. We had lunch as we docked at Juneau the state capital of Alaska. Unusual as there are no roads into the capital.
They say there are 3 ways to enter Juneau , by boat, by plane or by birth canal !
After lunch we had a walk around the port and did a bit of shopping. Then we headed off on a whale watching trip.
Within 10 minutes of getting on the boat we had our first view of humpback whales, a mother and her baby. A while later we were lucky to see one breaching (jumping out) the water, they use 50,000 calories to do this! Then finally we were surrounded by about 6, including 2 large males who just floated by our boat! An amazing trip, to be so close to the Whales we could hear them breathing, whale photos poor as I’m having as having trouble downloading off the big camera..anyone would think we were in the middle of nowhere
