Stumble-stones

They’re called Stolpersteine in German, and they mark the spots where deported Jews, Roma, and other “undesirables” lived before deportation. I’ve seen many of them in Berlin, but I didn’t know they had spread to Amsterdam as well — in this case right on the Prinzengracht, a major tourist-infested canal. To my mind, they are the best possible Holocaust memorial, because each person is individualized.
