Wee selfy with Cameron in The Regency
London Day 1
It is very exciting standing at the train station waiting with your grandson, for the big East Coast main line train with 11 carriages taking you down to The Big City for 5 days of sightseeing and exploring.
Mummy and Ben waved us off and we settled into the journey - entertained to Newcastle by a guy who had just come off 2 weeks on the riggs and had already drunk 3 cans of strongbow and was getting ready to crack open the bottle of vodka by Edinburgh. A mother and daughter going to York for 5 days got most of the chat but it was mainly a good laugh, he could certainly blether!!
Arrived in London on time and we headed from Kings cross station to the underground, bought an Oyster card which is fab for easy travelling on all modes of transport with kids under 11 free. It was an easy journey from kings cross to south Kensington in the Tube and it was Cameron's first time and he was quite impressed with the speed and all the hundreds of people - Office workers and tourists. Our hotel, The Regency, was only 5 mins walk from SOuth Kensington tube station and I was impressed with our street which is Queens Gate with the opulence of the buildings - blindingly white Georgian town houses with balconies and also the street was tree lined - very grand. At the top of the street was the Albert Hall and the amazing Albert statue across the road from it, just inside Kensington Gardens. The Natural History and Science museums are just round the corner and a few streets away was the V and A. Great location!! Thankfully our hotel is fully air conditioned and it was never off in our room from the minute we got there - temps all week never below 28 degrees:). The rooms are very modern, comfy beds, good pillows, very modern and loved the location. Thoroughly recommend it was anyone thinking of a trip to London. Great restaurants of every nationality abound too.
After unpacking we headed off to explore and have tea and we walked as far as Harrods then a nice pasta meal sitting out on the street taking in the atmosphere - a nice start to our week in London :)
