Schaeffer's Fulvetta
Alcippe schaefferi
Went on a short walk hoping for a bug and ended up with a bird! Should aim for bugs more often... reverse psychology and all that.. Auto focus was playing up and this was the only good shot out of three that I managed to take before he flew away.
So, I thought this was a Rufescent Prinia, however, was corrected by a birding friend of mine who know's his Vietnam birds inside out! I missed out the whole page of fulvetta's in the ID guide! Still no prinia for me then... :(
But anyway.... the Schaeffer's Fulvetta used to be known as the Grey-cheeked but was split fairly recently. It inhabits broadleaved evergreen forest, forest edges, secondary growth, scrub and bamboo at elevations of 600-2565 meters. It's found in China, Laos and Vietnam. These little dudes are insectivorous and usually glean their prey from foliage.
