FALKLAND, FIFE
A NOTE TO MYSELF: This was actually on the 21st and should have been backblipped but I've got my days all muddled up!!!!
A lovely day today. After going over the Sister-in-Law's place we decided we would all go to Falkland. I have been before, a few times, but not for several years. The day was very grey and cool weatherwise and dampness in the air, but it didn't rain and we didn't need umbrellas - yeah!!!
It only takes about 10 minutes so we were soon parked up. A lot of tourists about, but the Falkland is a popular place.
It's very pretty and I believe some of it was used in the TV series called Outlander. I never watched it myself but understand it was very popular.
After a stroll around we went into Falkland Palace. It was many years ago that I last went into the Palace. It was rather expensive but I think it was worth it. It is stunning inside. There are only so many rooms open but they are beautiful. Sadly, unusually for National Trust, you can't take photos inside, but to be fair they did point that out to us before we bought the tickets so fair enough.
We spent a couple of hours in there and it got a bit busy in places for me so I stepped out, till it quietened a bit. The tapestries in the long gallery are staggering. We went back 3 times to view them, you see something new every time you look. Astrounding.
Then we went up to Campbells Coffee house, just up the road for a delicious, but a bit too plentiful for me, lunch. Rob and his sister decided to go for the soup and sandwich combo, so I did the same. Just a cup of soup and a sandwich would be OK I thought. well it was quite a largeish cup, the soup was homemade and delicious and the sandwiches were like doorsteps, with a small salad garnish and crisps - HUGE.
Then after that we needed another stroll so went back into the Palace and had a wander around the grounds. It was very quiet in there now so obviously Saturday mornings is a busy time. Lovely grounds.
Then headed to Jean's son's house in Kirkcaldy, where we had a lovely surprise as his son Daniel, was there. Daniel is now almost 18 and at Aberdeen Uni and he caught a train a bus and got a lift from his Mum so he could see us whilst we were here - isn't that so lovely!!!!
We spent a few hours there, then went for an Italian meal round the corner before heading back to Jean's in Glenrothes. We then watched Strictly before we headed back to the Premier Inn.
A really lovely day.
PS: Here is a link for Aberdour Castle, part of our journey yesterday which I forgot to include.#
