Almost forgotten
Had a wonderful few hours up on Denniston this morning. Denniston has a rich history of coal mining and survival in what was a pretty harsh environment. Check out this and this to gain msome insight into the history of the town. Gary in link 2 gave a great talk on the history and Sylvia produced some refreshments for us - toasted sandwiches, scones, jam & cream all washed down with a lovely cup of tea in front of a roaring fire in the old schoolhouse building.
Whilst I've been up to Denniston a few times before this time offered much more insight, being led by locals who had direct connections to relatives who had lived 'on the hill'. So many remnants of tough life......makes me realise how easy we have it today.
