Doors Open Stirling
Doors Open Day no 3 for me but this time in Stirling. I went through to meet my old University friend (we met at Stirling Uni in 1976) and see some lovely artworks.
We met at 10.30am at the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum for coffee, cake and a catch up before joining a behind the scenes tour of The Smith. We had the privilege of seeing two beautiful stained glass windows by contemporary Scottish stained glass artist, Pinky Mclure, along with a lovely wallpaper frieze in the library then a Paolozzi and some of Alasdair Gray’s work in two of the administration rooms. We finished in the main gallery with the striking ‘Easy Tiger’ by the Mach Brothers, which had to be my main blip. A fibreglass tiger decorated in Tunnock’s tea cake and M&S wrappers.
We also went to a photography exhibition at The Tolbooth Arts Centre - Music Photography of Harry Papadopoulous which was very interesting as features many of the bands we saw at Stirling Uni, way back when. After a lovely lunch, my friend headed back to Edinburgh and me back home to Glasgow. Another lovely day of culture.
