A dendrobium flower friday!

We have had this dendrobium orchid for 3 years now and it seems to bloom continuously. When one set of blooms fade and fall off, another stem grows out with new buds. It's quite amazing.

I learned from a friend that orchids typically don't like direct sun. She had hers hanging under the shade of a tree, here in Florida. So I made sure this orchid stayed under the shade of our pergola, on our outdoor patio. When it's really hot and there's no rain we have to make sure to water it every other day. I have not paid much attention to it at all this summer because we have had an extremely rainy season here. It just keeps blooming!

I have repotted it 2 or 3 times when it grows larger with orchid mix, not dirt. This orchid is an epiphyte that gets it's moisture and nutrients from the air. There are some roots in the planting mix but most of them are above. It only has a few flowers blooming now, but it's developed 4 or 5 more stems with lots of buds. I have a few photos in an album here if you'd like to see it full of flowers!

Many thanks to BikerBear for hosting Flower Friday.
