Flamingo Engineers

The flamingo kick is sort of like the crane kick from Karate Kid but for soccer.

Mostly drab day full of meetings. I’m pretty down on my job this week because the corporate types decided to lay off a bunch of my coworkers. Ironically they didn’t lay off poor performers, instead they targeted long time high-band employees with substantial salaries. I knew several who were let go, and these are stellar engineers with a wealth of institutional knowledge and industry relationships.
Simultaneously we were given a mandate to expand our headcount in India. It’s hard to think of a more efficient method of radicalizing my compatriots towards a far right xenophobic mentality than attacking their livelihood, health (medical insurance is tied to employment), and long term security.
Ironically it’s the far right types who have deregulated these multinationals and made this unethical wallstreet book cooking possible. It’s all gross and I hate it. I am starting to look for employment elsewhere. Duke University has some positions open. They pay much less, that being said they offer a pension and don’t treat their workers this way.
