The Old Treasury, Adelaide

This morning the Ghan rolled into Adelaide, at the end of its journey from Darwin.  We are  here for  a few days, staying in an apartment hotel which used to be the Treasury building. As you can see, it is a fine building, and there are many other interesting old buildings in Adelaide. ( The clock tower of the Old Post Office is just visible to the left.) 
Adelaide, the Capital of South Australia, was first colonised by European settlers in 1836. It layout was planned by Colonel William Light,  the Surveyor- General for South Australia, in 1837. He split the town into South Adelaide ( now Central Business Area) comprising 700 acres and North Adelaide with  342 acres, and designed its grid system of roads, which still exists today, and makes navigating the city quite easy.
It feels much cooler( 13C) and is quite windy; quite a shock after the desert! 
We made a visit to the nearby Central Market to buy some provisions for tomorrow, and had a good dinner in the hotel restaurant.
