The ascension of Alexander the Great

Visiting the fascinating Halkida Archaeological Museum on our way up to northern Evia.
This 12th century representation of the ascension of Byzantine Emperor Alexander the Great apparently draws on representations of the apotheosis (elevation to divine status) of prominent figures in antiquity, and highlights the ideal of monarch/Emperor ruler of the world.
