Tending the floral clock
How do you tend Edinburgh's floral clock, which grows on a steep bank in Princes Street Gardens? By using ladders, it would appear.
The clock has been planted out since 1903 with up to 40,000 plants in an ornate design reflecting a different theme each summer. The 2013 theme is the centenary of Edinburgh Zoo. The gardener here is looking after one of the penguins in the design.
By complete coincidence the Edinburgh Evening News published a story about the clock today too.
Exercise today: walked to the National Library of Scotland via Centotre and back, about 1 hour 10 minutes in total.
