CPU

This morning I woke to comments from our New Zealand collaborator on an issue that piqued my interest and meat that I didn't go shopping for breakfast, and turned up late in the coffee break, so I only had wafer shards as sustenance. The first of the two lectures I attended was good, but I didn't learn as much from the second as I'd hoped.

After lunch at the Mensa, coffee with И outside in the warm sunshine was a very pleasant break before we retired to the office for the afternoon. I made progress on a tricky issue, and then had two online meetings. The first was of no relevance to И, so she went off to hear all the work gossip from our former developer L, so it was just I who wasted an hour. She returned for the second, which was very unexpectedly interesting, as it was with someone who wanted our solver for a very different purpose: benchmarking CPU performance. It ended with him offering us the gift of up to 24 surplus ARM processors on boards (with no memory). These could be hugely valuable for our own benchmarking. Although he's wholly trustworthy, I smiled when he said that they are in a warehouse in Mexico, and that he'd post them to us!

After that, we went out to another familiar eatery, where it was warm enough to sit out in the beer garden, and we reflected on a great week so far.
