The house of Cesar Manrique

Cesar Manrique was a Spanish artist, sculptor and nature activist from Lanzarote, known particularly for the architectural projects in which he was involved as artistic director in his island.

He was of great importance to the island. He managed to influence the architecture on Lanzarote. No high rise buildings as on the other Canary islands, no different colours of houses.  All white buildings with wooden doors and window shutters mostly in green. A lovely idea.

In 1986 he bought an old farm in Haria and renovated it in a luxurious place to live. A beautiful house which we visited today. He lived here until his death in 1992.
