Maribor

Maribor is only 30 km from Ptuj - Ptuj is the oldest town in Slovenia and Maribor the second largest and supposedly the centre of the wine growing industry. While we saw the oldest vine in the world on the side of a building we never saw a vineyard at all.

We parked the car ( and got a parking ticket ) and walked around Maribor for 2 hours.

The setting is lovely - crossing the river. We came across the synagogue ( closed) monuments and churches and even a tour company called Ari.

By the time we arrived back to the river it had become hot enough for Graham to unzip his trousers into shorts and we had a delightful sandwich by the river.

On our return to Ptuj we stopped at Ptujska Gora - a church on the hill.

Our accommodation has a delightful quirky bar for Graham to have a cup of tea
