LOOKING DAGGERS

I noticed a few of these munching the leaves of one of my rose bushes. I don't begrudge them, the roses are nearly over and the caterpillars aren't doing a lot of damage. As far as I can find out they're destined to become Grey Dagger moths if they survive. The moths are very much less dramatic looking than their caterpillars. There are also Dark Dagger moths, with different caterpillars, but which in moth form can only be distinguished from the Grey Daggers by close examination of their genitalia. I don't think my magnifying lenses would be quite up to the task
