Sarah (Grindewald -day 4)

Ticking all the 'tourist boxes we need to cram a lot in to a short period.

Today we went on the gondola (stunning) to Eigergletscher and then on the train to Jungfraujoch.

Sounds boring doesn't it...

But if you had read, as I have, all about the climbing triumphs and tragedies that have punctuated the history of the North Face Of The Eiger, you might understand the thrill that I experienced today.

It was emotional, evocative and quite amazing.

The train takes us on a steep 3000ft cog railway through the mountain. Through the Eiger, with viewing galleries at intervals that allow one to look out on the sheer drama of the cliffs and glacier that adorn the upper reaches of this breathtaking scenery.

The viewing platform and galleries are simply outstanding and the engineering involved is phenomenal.

Words and pictures cannot convey the excitement, and drama of this experience. But I do my best !
