The wetlands pond is
always a focus of bird
life activity

It was another slow morning for me. I was up just after 5 but I waited for the light to come up so photos would have some colour. I left the house at 7 heading for Tranquille. 

I made a daring photo from the rail crossing on Ord Road. The double track is very busy and one shouldn't tempt fate at a crossing. I did get the sun coming out beside my mountains. I am still appalled that housing was permitted to be built so close to the tracks.


I stopped just short of Tranquille by the stock pens where I can look over the wetlands pond to the farm. There was definitely a murder of crows congregating on the rail fences.

I found a flock of pelicans on the pond churning up their breakfast. It's like watching a threshing machine move through a field. Their activity seems to attract the herons who stand and wait for something to pop up for them. 

Along the edge of the pond two pairs of sandhill cranes were tiptoeing through the grasses. I don't know what they would be after but they scour through the grass intently and bob their heads up occasionally. 

I drove on to the farm to check on osprey but none were to be seen this morning. I wonder if they've started to migrate south. Osprey that breed in North America migrate to Central and South America for the winter. 

I picked up my breakfast to take home. Trevor was already working on my flooring when I returned. I'm hoping for a quiet day.
