As NIWA say in our local Nelson paper “a wintry wallop being caused by a tropospheric polar vortex moving close to Aotearoa (New Zealand) will make for a freezing cold week.

The vortex would result in a July-like chill, strong winds and snow to low levels, particularly on Tuesday”…….
