Help Required

I was doing some gardening this morning which included removing straight offshoots from the Contorted Hazel.
While I was doing that I came across this caterpillar.....and this is where  need the help -- I have never seen one before and I cannot find it on-line (probably due to stupidity). Can anyone point me in the right direction.
