In Remembrance......
Fall paid us a brief welcome visit recently, but summer has returned, though the heat is somewhat less oppressive than it was, so we gathered at FBC under what I call "partly mackerel skies" to lift up worship and praise to God for Who He is and for all the blessings He bestows on us. After the opening congregational song and welcome from Daniel McGinty, the choir, orchestra and all our dedicated accompanists presented a beautiful and worshipful rendition of the song, "Holy Forever". The congregation joined their voices with those of us in the choir for a few more songs before Pastor Wes took us back into the book of Ephesians reminding us that Paul told the Ephesians that he was praying earnestly for them to understand what Jesus had done for them and what they had been given to accomplish the mission that God had for them, as a church and as individuals who were saved by grace through faith in Jesus. Pastor Wes had much more to say about the mission, beginning in Chapter 4 with the important word "Therefore". that word tells us that we are to remember all the preparations in the first three chapters in order to properly carry out the instructions that Paul will tell them about in the rest of his letter to the church at Ephesus. That will start with next week's sermon. At the end of our service, we celebrated Communion. There is a commercial that I see periodically that says that God designed the communion for the healing of our bodies----and it upsets me to think of all the people who will hear that and be deceived! Jesus told us that we are to do it in remembrance of the terrible price He paid for our sin, so that we could be with Him in heaven for eternity.....Please pray that this deception will be stopped and people will know the true meaning of Communion or Lord's Supper.....
