Northern Star

Birthday weekend

MrH has a special big birthday this week so we have both taken a week of leave and he decided to go camping. We are in North Devon in a campsite we’ve been to before, full of caravans and we are the only tent so far. The wind forecast is ok so we may be safe. The tent was an annoying thing to start as we’d put it up in the garden a few weeks back and it was fine and well behaved. Today neither of us could work out the front and we were circling the thing. For 20 minute and repositioning it like mad. Storm pegs at hand seem to be tiny!

First time using a camping bed, well 2, rather than lilos- wish me luck.

Many years ago I slept through a storm here and my parents were holding the roof down of their French folding caravan. It was very scary I’m told. I’ve asked for a pitch in the sheltered area. This. View is about 50 meters from the tent. I know this area very well having spent about 10 school summer and Easter holidays here, before my folks discovered France!

Today we had a meal in a local pub in Mortehoe and then walked back through the fields and a stream. The air is so different here, clean but smells of sheep and earth.

The blip looks towards the south Wales coast which you can just about make out if you zoom in. At night you can see Tenby and Swansea lights.

I’m a natural night owl but welcomed my camp bed at 9:30pm! Suspect I’ll be up early.
