Wrong insect!
Today, as it was sunny, I went up to the butterfly reserve. I saw nothing - well, three whites and one red admiral - and on that whole enormous ridge! Admittedly the sun slid behind a huge cloudbank for most of the time I was up there, but what a disappointment. And though it's true most of the flowers up there have become seedheads, that was unexpected too.
Maybe that's why I've counted more butterflies in the garden today than on Magdalen Hill.
However, here's a bee to the rescue, feeding on ragwort. What a handsome furry gent.
