Zebulon in the Guts of a Zinnia

I bid on a couple of pairs of closet doors on an auction site, and I got them. I went to pick them up this morning, and right near the old factory building is Applewood, the home of C.S. Mott and his wife Ruth. Their gardens are open Thursday-Sunday, and are extensive. A feast for the eyes, a song for the senses.

Mr. Mott was a prominent figure in the early history of the automobile industry, and was very big in philanthropy in this area. His estate is also a place where my dad...as a young lad...used to sneak into and steal apples. In dad's honor, I had an apple today, but I didn't steal it. They were passing them out, along with apple butter. Both were good.

I had hoped to see some butterflies and hummers at the gardens, but I only saw a single monarch.

I tagged this for Flower Friday, with thanks to Bikerbear for hosting.
