Harvest

The apple harvest is early this year, for my tree, at least.

Daily I go out and check which apples are ready to be taken off of the tree, a Bramley Seedling. You hold the apple on your hand, lift it up past stalk height, and if the stalk doesn't snap off the branch, then that apple isn't ready to be picked.

The aim of the day is to pick the apples, store the best ones, cook any bruised ones- mainly those that drop before you pick them, or those that you bash off the tree as you clamber amongst it- and deliver the rest of the ripe apples to willing takers.

On a good day, I have no apples left on my table. Whilst this is a very pleasing display, it is not a good day because tomorrow there will be more ready to pick. Apple anyone?
