Vue Cinema Rhyl

Today, the street was again a hive of activity. The Openreach team arrived bright and early, bringing along several vehicles that soon took up half the road. They quickly got to work, they had already cordonied off a section of the street and today were digging a trench along one side. Not long after, the Council road sweeper appeared, making three rounds of the slalom course.

 Ben, our bathroom fitter, arrived promptly at 08:30 followed by Carl  in the Cherry Van with our Ocado delivery at precisely 9:30. The garden waste collection vehicle rolled in soon after, followed later by the recycling team.

Though it was another cool and showery day, we still managed to fit in a late afternoon walk around the village.

This evening, we headed to the Vue Cinema in Rhyl to watch Prima Facie, an internationally acclaimed play recorded at the Harold Pinter Theatre and streamed nationally to cinemas. Jodie Comer stars as Tessa, a brilliant young barrister who has risen to the top of her profession, skillfully defending clients and winning cases. However, her world is turned upside down following a sexual assault by a colleague.  As Tessa grapples with the burden of proof and the complex moral dilemmas of the law, the play reveals how emotion and integrity often clash with the rigid rules of the game.

The script was sharp, fast-paced, and incredibly engaging. Jodie Comer’s solo performance was  powerful, capturing the intensity of Tessa’s internal conflict. Overall, it was a thought-provoking and thoroughly enjoyable experience.

We initially tried to book tickets at The Scala Cinema & Art Centre in Prestatyn, but it was completely sold out. As a second option, we went to the Vue in Rhyl, just five miles away, where we found ourselves in an almost empty auditorium—only five people in total, including us. It really highlights the contrast in demographics between the two towns, and perhaps affordability too!
