Enter the Dragon
In which we continue our eating tour of central Pennsylvania!
It had been several months since we'd seen my mother-in-law, who lives in Homewood at Martinsburg. So when she called and asked us to come and visit and enjoy an Italian takeout feast with her, we immediately said Yes!
I brought along one of our delicious home-grown tomatoes, and a Mexican sunflower, which the butterflies and bees and hummingbirds adore, and so I hoped that she would too.
When we got there, the first thing we did was to order the takeout, which was to say pizza, salad, and stromboli, from nearby Small Town Pizza (menu here).
To be more specific, the salad was their large chef salad, topped with ham, fresh turkey breast, cheddar cheese, and a hard-boiled egg. We added my own home-grown tomato and ranch dressing.
The stromboli was a medium, called "the works." It featured ham, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, cheese, and pizza sauce, with a cup of marinara sauce for dipping.
The pizza, which you may see above, is the largest pizza they sell. It is called "The Dragon," and it is 24 inches by 12 inches, with 21 slices. We chose pepperoni as our only topping. It came in a huge box. I think it was the biggest pizza I've ever seen!
So we chowed down for a very long time, and then we spent the afternoon sitting in the living room chatting, catching up, making up for lost time. Oh, and I almost forgot! Our dessert (served several hours later) was blueberry cheesecake ice cream from a nearby Ritchey's Dairy store!
At the end of the afternoon, my husband and I departed, taking along half of the chef salad that was left, and the rest of the pizza; she got custody of the stromboli. :-)
Later on in the evening, when I was feeling a little peckish, I enjoyed a second serving of the chef salad. This time, I added even more of one of our own tomatoes, and Gazebo Room Greek dressing, which is a personal favorite.
I also had two more pizza slices, heated up in the microwave. I hate to tell you this, but both the salad and the pizza were EVEN BETTER LATER than they were when served fresh in her living room! Go figure!
In any case, MANGIA!
So here is The Dragon, which is my photo for the day. My soundtrack song is the theme track from the film, Enter the Dragon.
