Blue tit [parent]
I shared this photo earlier in the year, excited as I was to have a pair of Blue tits nesting in our nest box, at the very first attempt.
Or neighbour [Ron] very kindly offering to place the box into its new home [the shed] and fixing it into its permanent position.
I never imagined the book to be used quite so quickly, lucky me.
The Blu tits successfully raised a brood and fledged. The box therefore, has been lying dormant since the summer, over grown and hidden by the fast growing dog rose [Rosa canina]
Now that summer is moving into Autumn and birds once more can be heard twittering from trees and bushes, and the cycle of using our garden as a primary food source, begins.
In the near background, the song of the Robin, belting out its song to mark its territory once more, can be heard.
At noticing [once trimmed of prickly dog rose] Tits had already begun visiting our nest box, as a possible nest site for the spring of 2025, the decision was made to remove the old nest.
Rebecca armed with small steps and secateurs achieved the removal. Interestingly the first noticeable thing was what had been used to create the soft lining. Dog hair and feathers. I know this as I recognised both Millie's [our dog] and [Archie] next doors dog. Both Jack Russel's. One long haired [ours] and the other short haired.
Seeing how a tiny bird Had constructed such an intricate, strong yet delicate home for it's young, was a truly powerful moment.
I have included a photo of the nest in extra's
