"Meet Me At The Kissing Gate"

A gatekeeper butterfly sitting on kiss-me-quick made the Sam Brown song pop into my head. Gatekeeper butterflies are so-called because they frequent field edges, often in the vicinity of gates. My grandchildren and I used to spend a lot of time butterfly hunting and I know that they could identify this one. I was interested to learn recently that Nabokov, of Lolita fame, was a serious lepidopterist.

There are fewer butterflies around this year and Sir David Attenborough wants us to take part in The Big Butterfly Count which starts this Saturday.
