Fire Wine

We said goodbye to Rick and Meg this morning after a final trip to Trail House. They are off to a family reunion with Meg's five siblings to celebrate several September birthdays, including Meg's, and remember their mother who died at the age of 103. She was a lovely lady who will be remembered with fondness by all who knew her.

I noticed this print on the wall at Trail House and really liked the way the artist was able to render the fire/post-fire landscape into a pleasing image.   It doesn't take a lot of imagination to recognize our own view out of our living room window. I asked Crystal where it came from and she said one of her customers brought it in and asked if he could put it up.  She said I wasn't the first person to enquire about it. It's a wood block print and she would pass on my interest to the artist. It's a faithful representation of the landscape (but without the PTSD ) which I'm sure will resonate with many Trail House customers. I have no idea where I'd put it, but if they are for sale, I will definitely find a place for it.

In other Trail House news, there is a man who comes in every day with his dog, a beautiful Akita named Hanou. He always sits at the bar and she lies on the floor at his feet holding court with her many admirers who come by to pat her and, in one woman's case, get down on the floor and hug her. She and Spike have always greeted each other without incident through the wire fence between the bar and the table seating area, but the last couple of says she has barked at Spike, so of course Spike barks back and eventually winds up in the car. The man thinks that now that she's almost three she's getting more protective. We agreed that we would find a way for Spike and Hanou to become friends again, but not exactly on how that might happen.

Back to the quilt again this afternoon, I worked out a thorny problem on how to do the sky behind an uneven skyline. It has a sun in it very like the sun on the Vin de Feu Poster. While I was working on that, John was driving back to Kathy's to get his car key fob which he left there yesterday. We didn't notice it was missing right away because I had my key with me when we left Kathy's, so the car started even though he didn't have his key.

Modern technology is out to get us....
