A Meandering Life...

Tiny Tuesday 485 :: TT485 :: Decay

Apparently glass would take over 4000 years to decay naturally, so I guess even if this tiny fuse was Matilda's original today's theme may not be very apt.

Yesterday Matilda behaved very well. This morning she wouldn't even start, no ignition, no battery, nothing...

I have a power pack for just these occasions but on first go that didn't work. Matilda has only 2 fuses, they both looked okay. A second jump got her going so I left the Abington Service Station and took the B road down to Moffat where I planned to have my breakfast.

A mile into my journey the fuel gauge dropped to zero, this told me the fuse had failed. It also told me the indicators, brake lights, wipers all would not work! Just as well I was on the B road and not the motorway. I only had 2 cars pass me on the road, I used the old fashion hand signals until I arrived in Moffat. Breakfast came first.

I checked the fuse and saw it had blown. I had a spare but when I extracted it from its holder the metal end was missing. The fuse wire appeared okay so I managed to insert it so that the metal connected and once I jumped started it again all was working. This got me home without any issues but I didn't't stop just in case I couldn't start it again.

New fuses ordered and I will have to investigate why the battery is dying. It could be the alternator. It does show these old cars can keep going, often with a bit of string or a bit of foil from a lunch box...
