Dodgem ride in one lorry

Today we went to meet friends for lunch and on the green opposite the pub a funfair was being set up. I took Libby for a walk and had a good look at a lot of the trucks which contained the rides. I had not really thought about it before but on close observation it seems that most rides are very complex fold up bits of kit. This dodgem ride has big plates which fold out to become the base of the ride. Plus the kiosk is part of the ‘lorry’ too. Very clever engineering.

The pub was one of the Heartwood inns which have menus by Raymond Blanc. The set menu for September had a dish for each course which contained plums….First course - pickled; main - compote; dessert - poached ! The food was very good on the whole and ai liked the idea of using plums in different ways but I was not impressed by the pickled plums or the compote…not much difference except the pickled were doused in vinegar and the compote had not been cooked for long enough!
Good to meet up with old friends we have not seen since January and a good journey on M25 and M3.

Summer seems to be over. Only 13C this morning and I needed a jumper and a coat. Some drizzle later too!
