Aceretum

Bluebell Arboretum, in the pretty village of Smisby, near Ashby-de-La-Zouch, has a very special section where 50 Japanese maples have been carefully planted. It’s early in the season, but already they are showing the wonderful range of autumn colours that acers are famed for.

Bluebell is not their specialism; it’s just the name of the property. They are tree specialists, with a wonderful range of unusual trees and shrubs. Yes, for sale, and they are highly rated in the gardening world, advisers to estates such as Melbourne Hall and Calke Abbey.

The trees are very well labelled, and the staff are wonderful. It’s well worth a visit.
