simonsblips

And probably the last time I will have a number on my back in a competitive environment, not that I intended to be competitive today.
The blip is of one of the first medals I was awarded by my cycling club 60 years ago in 1974 (15 years old) for completing a 30 mile time trial in a time of 1 hour 11 minutes and 45 seconds. This event was held on the A38 on a Saturday afternoon when just 11 million vehicles were present on our roads, today there are 45 million and the vehicles are able to travel so much faster than then.
The second medal was for completing the Bideford Triathlon that I chose to use as a fitness goal after a car ploughed into my bike and I whilst not paying due care and attention back in February. My ability to swim in the compulsory wet suit proved exhausting as described by Rmeinz in his blip of me trying to ease my aching ribs and back whilst swimming against the turning tide. The bike and run legs were enjoyable after such a long time in the river estuary. Running alongside participants simply trying this event for the first time was humbling and one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever experienced having spent most of my sporting life nearer the pointy end of events.
Dippy came along to support me and I could hear his encouragement as I crawled alongside the quay in my neoprene camouflage. He had several people fighting over who would take care of him whilst I was avoiding death by drowning:)
Thank you to all of the volunteers around the world who have helped to promote the numerous events that I have been fortunate to participate in over a 60 year sporting journey, especially the aged rotarians who were so supportive towards everyone today.
