Strange Tree Trunk Shape

Today was a day without plans, or a rest day.  Leisurely breakfast, sitting by the pool, shopping for a hat (as I left mine on the minibus yesterday), and then a walk in the afternoon. The dull day turned into a hot sunny one as we walked along the coast. 

I spotted this tree as we walked, and I was taken by its shape.  A bulbous root gives way to a narrowing trunk with several skinny branches at the top. It doesn't look in great condition, but it was the shape of the trunk that I liked.
