Brother bikers

Today we took the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road out of Austria and in to Italy. At 2,474 metres it ranks among the highest paved passes in Europe. You can also walk along the original path over the pass like smugglers did in times past.

It was foggy and threatening to rain as we set off from Obergurgl and the narrow winding road over the mountain pass and across the border was filled with spectacular views, the roar of motorbikes, tourists in campervans and hikers along the trails. These three bikers were intently watching out for  biker comanions to catch them up whilst they enjoyed a pit stop.

- There are  information points along the pass road designed by architect Werner Tscholl telling the stories of the pioneers who built the road, the history of what used to be Europe's highest mine and of  the smugglers who carried contraband across the mountain trails. Mark rather liked the smugglers museum.

- Tonight we are in Lana, a picturesque little town in South Tyrol. The sun was shining for our arrival. This is our view from the window.
