Sanctuary of Christ the King

This monument overlooks Lisbon. It was inspired by ChrIst the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon visited Brazil. The giant statue was erected to express gratitude because the Portuguese were spared the direct destructive effects of World War II.
