Après La Deluge

I slept very badly indeed wandering round the creaky old house from 2.30am.  I moved into the small single room at one point but it made no difference so I just accepted it and read.  The storm started around 5am and was torrential,  with lightening and thunder rolling round the hills.  By the time it was light , quite late at 7.30, the rain hadn’t let up.   We had a to pack up and ferry stuff out to the car through sheets of the stuff.  We were all a bit nervous setting out on the drive through flooded roads so I was relieved to hear that B&C and the babies had made Bergerac airport safely.  We stopped first at Sarlat for coffee, where it was still raining but the market was lively.   We then went on to Beynac-et-Cazenac for a lunch at La Petite Tonnelle which had good local menu.  I wasn’t hungry but recognise that on no sleep food is a good substitute. We wandered down to the river after lunch and looked at the flat bottom boats (pictured!) setting out for rides down the river.  The Dordogne is wide and shallow so there are relatively few boats on it.  Only canoes and these Gabarres.   I slept all the way to Bergerac airport and we made it in through the front route this time so it seemed less like a tin shack in a field.

That said the plane was an hour delayed and there is zero there and with dwindling charge on phones and IPhones I was kicking myself for having left my kindle in my case.

Back in one piece although bumpy on the approach to S’oton but we were home before 9 so that wasn’t too bad.
