While on my runs

A bright replacement

Went for a walk this afternoon. Hadn't gone very far when I heard what sounded like a motor mower engine. Spotted the origin of the noise; a trolley with a motor. A rather good looking go-kart, being driven by a clearly young lad who had called out to a similarly young lad on the footpath. Without thinking I got a quick photo and went on my way.

Had I been closer I may have asked his permission for the photo. But I did not. I am not concerned that I took his photo without his permission. However, I feel uncomfortable about using the photo as my blip, given the possibility that many others might see it.

As I write those words I recall what happened a couple of weeks ago. A large truck crashed through the median barrier (a tyre blew) on one of our motorways into oncoming traffic. Three people died and a number of others were injured. A number of others took videos which were then posted on social media. No consent was gained nor even considered by the photographers.

School children with smart phones are taking videos of other children fighting, the fight having been set up by those taking the videos which are then posted on social media without any consent or willingness for the fight or the filming by those set upon.

Having reached this point in my thinking, I have chosen to not post the photo of a budding racing car driver. Instead I have now posted a bunch of clivia flowers. The flowers gave no consent.
