Story Ship

A World War II era LST ship docked in Wheeling this weekend and opened her bow to welcome the public to tour the floating museum LST325. 
   I was lucky enough to tour it with my friend who had served aboard a different LST during the Vietnam War.  His tales about life aboard were filled with small adventures, terrifying seconds, and funny incidents that he recalled with animation in his voice and sometimes a bit of a tear.  
     It was easy to imagine him as a teenager running around the ship doing his job and staying out of trouble (although not always successfully).  Details I never would have considered came to the top as naturally as bubbles through the water.
