A heat wave
Today being the second day of our heat wave, I headed out early (for me) to pick up prescriptions and groceries before it got too hot. Since then I've watched the Paralympics and cooled off in the work room when I needed to. Watching the Paralympics is so much more difficult than watching the Olympics, because of the enormous number of events covering every class of disability. Instead of one men's 100 meter race, there are about 11. Same with every sport - it's mind-boggling. But I'm enjoying seeing these courageous people trying to do and be their best.
Gena and Terri called this afternoon. They are very soft-spoken and between that and my hearing loss I find it very difficult to hear/understand them on the phone. So I tried plugging my earbuds into the phone and for the first time in years I heard every word! Since my earbuds live in my dialysis bag, I've ordered another pair to keep at home for the phone.
Back to dialysis tomorrow. On Thursday one of the nurses came around to show me how to disconnect myself from the machine in the event of an emergency evacuation from the clinic. I wouldn't be a high priority for staff to assist because many of the other patients are seriously disabled. So she gave me a paper showing photos of what to do and she took me through it at my chair. She had a lot of confidence that I would be able to do it if necessary. I don't think it's really possible, given the logistics. It hadn't occurred to me that something like that could take place! On the plus side, Dr. Tekeste came by as I was finishing up my session and it was good to see him and talk in person.
