Shades will be Worn

It was an invisible world when I looked out of the window this morning. The haar was down at sea  level and I could see nothing beyond the garden.. Blipper Pensioner and Diane were coming through to Stromness from Kirkwall and omens for them to see anything were bleak. I met them off the bus  to have coffee only to find Julia’s Café was closed. Not a good start but we repaired to the Pier café and breakfast was had. I was able to see, thanks to Diane, how it’s possible to eat a roll with black pudding and a fried egg elegantly.  I accompanied them on a dander up the street before forsaking  them for a swim at high tide with 4 other Selkies.

The sun finally broke through the haar at midday and the swim was lovely. It’s wonderful to be able to come out of the water in warmth and sunshine and not shiver.
I have to say  Pensioner and Diane’s path and mine crossed several times during the post dip session. It’s a small place and it was lovely to see home territory faces.
It’s just a short break in the North Isles for them - Diane hopes the next short break will be to Bermuda. Pensioner take note!
