SITTING ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY

First of all, great news, the results of my repeat test have come through and are NORMAL - that's about the only normal thing about me but it's such a relief.  Actually the surgery is amazing, when we got back home this afternoon I sent in a message to the surgery to ask if I needed to do anything to get the results, expecting to be told to call back next week.  I had a reply from the Dr herself within 10 minutes to tell me the good news, plus a text message to confirm it.  AMAZING!!!


Back to today.  Last night I did get some sleep. I started off fine but woke about 2.00 am, as I usually do but then couldn't get back to sleep until well after 5.00 a.m.  Consequently i didn't get up until "whispers" 8.50!!!!  I never get up that late!!!

Anyway due to be up a bit late I decided to abandon my previous idea and just go somewhere fairly local.  So I chose to visit Glasson Dock. 

Google Maps at the ready.  We went  along the A590 and onto the M6 to Junction 33 as per usual and then onto the A6 briefly.  Then Google Maps decided she would take us via Galgate onto the B5290 and then very narrow twisty turny unclassified road!!!! Luckily, strangely enough, we ended up following White Van Man, but he was excellent - not rushing through as they usually do.  We eventually got out onto the A588 very briefly to the B5290 to Glasson Dock.

A large potholey sort of car park but it has facilities (amazing) and the car  park cost us £3.50 for about 4 hours!!!  There are two choices of places for coffee - one is a sort of caravan hut, but very well kept and has seating outside.  It has a good reputation for coffee.  However due to it being so windy we went over the Canal Lock bridges and into The Quayside Cafe.   It's rather nice in there.  The coffee was a little weak for me, but still pleasant enough.  

Then we just walked around in front of the cafe.   There isn't much there.  The blurb says there are shops (plural) there is one local shop!! Still we didn't need that.  I wanted to see the Glasson Dock Lighthouse but hadn't realised at that time that I was actually looking at it from the bridge (see in extras - the lighthouse is actually the small white church-ike structure you can see on the right of the photo).

I was hoping you would be able to walk along the Docks, but you can't it's not open to the general public, such a shame, but there it is.

Anyway we decided to walk along the Bay Cycle Way - it's both a path and a cycle route.  You walk right along the side of the River Lune Estuary, as you can see in the main photo.  It is a tidal river.  We walked to Conder Green along the path in very blowy conditions but with great views and mostly sunshine.  This pathway is raised up above the marshes but on the return we walked along a narrow path on the marshes.  More sheltered down there.

Then on getting back to the car park, which is right alongside the marina, we discovered the Lancaster Canal and walked along there for a little way to come across a very pretty little church, Christchurch, Glasson so went in and left them some money as it was so good that it was open.  It  was decorated out in beautiful flowers along the pews and windows - very pretty.

On getting back to the car we drove home but this time we went a route I knew.  We have been to Conder Green before to The Mill for my birthday so I remembered a route back  from there, which took us through Cockerham and back on down to the A6 and then M6 and home.
